Why I Love Woolino Sleep Sacks

Sleep sacks are one of my FAVORITE healthy sleep tools. If you know me, you know I am not a big advocate of sleep tools that are marketed as a one and done sleep solution, BUT I am all about providing your little one the right tools to set them up for success come time to fall asleep on their own. Sleep sacks are one of those things I recommend in every single consultation when working with little ones age 4 months to 3 years.

Why Use A Sleep Sack

Sleep sacks can be so helpful for your little one, when they are prepping their body and brain for sleep. As soon as that sleep sack goes on, they start rubbing their eyes, yawning, and getting ready to go to sleep. All of those tired cues are literally clicked on when that sleep sack goes on their body because they associate them so strongly with sleep. Which makes falling asleep all on their own so much easier at bedtime! I recommend to every client to put on a sleep sack at the end of their bedtime routine so that your child’s brain can start producing melatonin and they are able to say “Ok it’s time to sleep! I’m ready, let’s do this!”

Especially for little ones who are transitioning out of the swaddle, instead of putting your little one in just pjs, use a sleep sack! A sleep sack not only allows your little one to have their arms out for safety, but it allows them to take with them some of that same safety and comfort that the swaddle gave, making that often rocky transition much easier. It’s something a little bit weighted on their bodies, it keeps them warm, and it gives them some physical boundaries (which young babies love, hello they were just in the womb!) so it’s not just them in that big ol' crib with nothing else! Would you feel comfortable falling asleep in your bed without any sheets or covers? Probably not! The sleep sack allows your baby or toddler to stay cozy all night until they are ready to transition to an open bed!

When To Use A Sleep Sack

Once your baby is rolling or showing signs of rolling, the AAP says they are no longer safe to be swaddled. And yet many parents hesitate to transition them out because of the comfort and womb-like feeling the swaddle provides many babies to help them soothe to sleep. So when your baby is ready to be unswaddled, I highly recommend we transition into a sleep sack with arms out. Transitional products are great, however remember that some of the most popular ones have a very small window of safe use. So why take the risk? Go for the sleep sack and use sleep coaching to teach your baby how to settle themselves with arms out instead of introducing yet another short-term product.

So how do we know when to transition them out of a sleep sack? There is not an exact right or wrong answer here. If you want to transition them out within the first year and they’re still sleeping like a champ without it, go for it! However, I recommend to all of my clients to keep that sleep sack as long as their little one is in a crib! The AAP says no blankets or pillows in the crib until at least 12 months, and even then most little ones don’t learn how to pull a blanket up over themselves until they are ready to transition out of the crib around 3 or 4 anyways! If it’s providing them extra security, it’s setting them up for sleep success, and it’s keep them warm and cozy all night, WHY NOT right?!

Why I LOVE Woolino Sleep Bags

I was first introduced to Woolino by my sister, which if you read my About page, you know that her twins (my niece and nephew) were the reason I became a sleep consultant! In search of a high quality sleep sack that would actually last, she found Woolino and has never looked back! Here’s a few reasons why I always recommend Woolino to my clients:

  • They have universal sizing. Literally one sleep sack is sized from 2 months to 2 years! That’s ONE product you have to buy for two years!

  • They’re made from Merino wool, which means that they are all season! They will keep your little one warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

  • They have a really high quality zipper that is located on the side of the sleep sack instead of in the middle, which makes it harder for curious kiddos to break out of when they are older!

  • They have snaps at the top to make it easier to put it on or take it off your child.

  • They also have snaps on the side to make the arm holes bigger as your child grows so they aren’t constricting on their underarms while they sleep.

  • They grow with your child! They have toddler sleep bags for little ones up to 36 months, and blankets for when your little one is ready to transition to an open bed!

  • They last FOREVER! Literally they stay in like new condition for years! Which means you can use them with your next little one and/or pass them down to others! (My sister passed down the twins first sleep sacks to me and they are almost as good as new)

And if you’re sick of hearing about why I love them, here’s a few quotes from past and present clients that love their Woolino Sleep Sacks too:

“I'm obsessed. It's so much more than a sleep sack. It's an integral part of our bedtime routine. No matter the temperature in the room he's comfortable. They last forever and wash amazingly. I think the perfect product! I wish I had one for myself!” - B.F.

“It is so soft and keeps our baby warm and cozy at night. It has a nice weight without being bulky, and helps to settle our little one to sleep” - N.D.

“It gives me peace of mind that he’s comfortable and cozy during all seasons! It’s such a great investment!” - J.L.
